Please read this letter from the Superintendent for school information related to the weather system that is moving through our area. Our school administration works closely with local emergency officials in the days leading up to and then throughout any emergency situation. If there is a need, school notifications will be sent through our E-Alert system. Parents that did not receive test alert text and email messages on 10/1/15 should register for E-Alert by following the link on our school website.
Sea Girt Elementary School RESPECT Week will begin on Monday, October 5th. The goal of RESPECT Week as well as all other weeks in school is to promote a positive school climate and community. Throughout the week, our staff will be introducing and participating in activities involving themes on respect and diversity.
Local high schools have begun to post their open house information. Our school counselor regularly updates her webpage with new information as it becomes available. The Monmouth County Vocational School District (MCVSD) dates have most recently been posted. We will host a high school information night for SGES Grades 7 & 8 parents on September 30 from 7-7:45 PM.
Verizon created the Verizon Innovative App Challenge contest to use kids’ love of smartphone and tablets to spark their passion for learning about STEM. The contest inspires them to look beyond what apps can do to how they do it, and introduces them to computer science through a hands-on project to create a real world solution. Its focus on app development and coding encourages them to become builders of technology solutions.
Would you like to be a reporter for Scholastic News? Members of the Scholastic News Kids Press Corps cover news stories for scholastic.com/news and select Scholastic classroom magazines. The program is open to all students ages 10-14 with a desire to be a journalist. The selection of Kid Reporters is based on writing ability, interviewing skills, and attention to detail. Applications are due September 25.
In May 2015, Governor Christie called on the New Jersey Department of Education to present a plan to review New Jersey's English language arts and mathematics standards, known as the Common Core State Standards. The plan continues New Jersey's tradition of professional standards reviews, maintaining a New Jersey set of standards to continue on the path begun more than four years ago to raise student expectations and outcomes. Educators and parents are encouraged to participate in the survey, which is open until October 9th.

For your convenience, our school nurse has posted several health forms on her webpage. Sports physicals must be handed in before a student may attend tryouts or practices. The Universal Health Form is to be completed by new students to the school (including pre-kindergarteners.) Please contact our school nurse, Mrs. Ryder, with any health related questions..
SGES Peer Leaders hosted a dance-a-thon to raise over $4,500 to support the Make-a-Wish Foundation. A local Monmouth County child's bedroom will be remodeled with a Thomas the Train theme.
